Marcus has changed his hair. One side is short and one side is very long. But he’s really the same guy. He has a phone. Marina and Rebecca are going to take a video with Rebecca’s stuffed animals. Rebecca and me were playing a game called laser the tree with water.
Marina is sleeping over with Marcus and Rebecca and I’m sleeping in the hotel with my Mom and Dad.
We are at Marcus and Rebecca’s house. Rebecca broke her arm by walking a dog and the dog saw something and it started dragging her toward the thing by accident. Now she has a cast and she has a sling in her room. We had a pillow fight with her for ransom. Marcus ransomed them. And then they ransomed Marcus. I helped them ransom Marcus. I came up with the idea.
Note from Russell: Rebecca’s arm was broken a couple of weeks ago.
last night we were lazy, we watched a movie, listened to some music and fell asleep. I can’t wait to see my cousins!!
After a late start in Omaha on Saturday morning, we all went to the Durham Museum in the old Union Pacific railway station. It’s a beautifully restored station with a kid-friendly museum inside. In the waiting room, there were statues of WWII-era folks which produced timely conversations when you approached them. The kids loved those.
Inside the museum there is an old-time grocery store, pictures of Omaha’s past, actual trains to see and run through, and some original documents pertaining to the creation of the UP railroad (including a reproduction of one with Abraham Lincoln’s scrawled signature). The railroad’s completion changed cross-country travel from six months and $1000 to one week and $70. More importantly, the current exhibit, Mindbender Mansion, was all about puzzles! Of all sorts! Forget the kids, I had a blast.
We really packed a lot into our visit to Omaha. In addition to the zoo and the museum and the pool, Steve and Margo Riekes stopped by for dessert and we got to hear about their recent Eastern European travels. Suzanne was an amazing host, even making a brisket so that we could make some excellent sandwiches for the afternoon’s ride. They were yummy! More importantly, it was great to see her. Another excellent stop.
Last night, on the other hand, we stopped in North Platte just to stop somewhere. Izzy had an itchy time in the middle of the night, but we were able to help him feel better (after we stopped telling him to stop whining and go back to sleep) by digging out the perfect cream from his dermatologist from the back of the car. Not our best parenting, but what can you expect at 4am? He was able to go right to sleep afterwards.
We are all psyched to see the Flaxes this afternoon!
