We’re packing up here in Okoboji, readying ourselves for the short (3.5 hour) drive to Omaha where we’ll see Emily’s Aunt Suzanne. It has been a well-needed, well-enjoyed break from our forward progress, not to mention a great time for all of us to recharge our friendships. Yesterday, the kids all enjoyed watching the videos of themselves playing with each other as very little kids here and here (real player needed). Last night, Ludo and Cleo showed us their flash mob dance (from their fifth grade graduation) and Marina showed them her dance to Word Up (from her spring recital). It’s nice for the kids to have friends across the country, reminders that not living in the same town with your friends doesn’t mean that you lose them.
A quick bike ride, now, with Marina and then a dip in the lake and we’re off.
July 6th, 2012 at 10:05 am Hi Marina and Izzy, Sounds like you are having a great time. Hopefully we can watch the videos of you dancing (and Marina getting dumped with water)when you come here. I’m not too technically savvy so I am not sure I can get them until then. We used to joke about watching the corn grow as we drove across Iowa. What we did most though to entertain ourselves was look for Burma Shave commercials (which I don’t think they have any more) and out of state license plates. As soon as you cross the border, your mom will no doubt break into “There is no place like Nebraska…” Marina, thanks for greeting Carolyn’s family for me. Izzy, how did Hansel and Gretel end? Why was it different? Love and kisses from Grandpa and me.
July 6th, 2012 at 10:48 am The play was different because they have eyeballs in the forest and they’re really mean to each other like Marina and me are sometimes. And there’s chocolate cake and vanilla cake and cheesecake in it. And there’s a talking bird.
